Photography
Ira joined the photography faculty at Spokane Falls Community College in 1997, teaching classes in still photography, digital media production, and documentary filmmaking. He majored in communication studies and journalism at Eastern Washington University and has pursued graduate studies in fine art, media theory, and filmmaking at Vermont College and The New School University in New York.

Ira has worked full time as a professional photographer since 1989 and was nationally certified as a commercial photographer by the Professional Photographers of America in 1995. His work emphasizes storytelling whether in words or photographs. He works with digital and film-based cameras up to 8x10.

Ira has served on the board of directors for the Professional Photographers of Washington and is currently Chair of the Northwest Region of the Society for Photographic Education. In addition to teaching, he also does freelance projects including book publishing, gallery exhibitions, and commercial photography assignments.

Colin is an award winning multimedia producer and staff photographer at The Spokesman-Review, a 100,000-circulation newspaper that covers Eastern Washington and North Idaho. After 18 years as a staff photojournalist, Mulvany made the transition to online storytelling by becoming his newspaper’s first multimedia producer in 2004. He has produced hundreds of video feature stories and audio slideshows.

Mulvany has been honored for his photography and multimedia in Pictures of the Year International, Best of Photojournalism, Society of Newspaper Design, the National Headliners Awards and the National Press Photographer Association’s Monthly Multimedia Contest. In 2005 he was recognized by the Wall Street Journal as being a leading expert in the emerging field of multimedia storytelling and is a sought after national speaker.

Colin has been teaching classes in the photography program at Spokane Falls Community College since 1999.

English 131: Introduction to Literature Media Writing
Jason has been a faculty member at Spokane Falls Community College since 2005. Prior to moving to Spokane, he was an award-winning reporter for newspapers in Alabama and Georgia. Jason has also worked as a freelance reporter in the Dominican Republic, where he served as the English Language Coordinator for a private bilingual high school.

Jason is a graduate of Auburn University and has completed additional training at the University of Southern California and the Poynter Institute for Media Studies. He is a 2004 National Endowment for the Arts fellow.

As the lead instructor in the Journalism program, Jason oversees program direction and course development, and teaches courses in multimedia news production, print news production, mass media, and news writing. He is the adviser for The Communicator, Communicator Online, and The Current, a news-based television program.
