Credit and Financial Management Program

The United States economy is based on the constructive use of money and credit, by both businesses and individuals.  The present growth in the finance and credit field indicates this need will intensify in the future.  This growth will require adequately trained people to supervise the promotion, securing, control, and collection of commercial and consumer credit.

This program is especially designed for two purposes:

  1. To prepare students for entry into a credit or financial management occupation.
  2. To prepare currently employed people for advancement to positions of greater responsibility with financial organizations.

The program begins with a one-year certificate.  The certificate includes five specialty courses in credit and financial management as well as basic skill courses (such as accounting, communications, computers, and business law.)  For those students who wish to continue their education, the second year of the program leads to an A.A.S. degree through the addition of general business classes such as economics, marketing, management, and other courses needed for success in business.

Prospective students will be successful in the program if they:

  • enjoy working with people (maybe even supervising them)
  • are tactful, truthful and trustworthy (particularly in situations involving others' property or confidential information)
  • desire to develop their knowledge regarding the world of finance
  • have energy, ambition and at least average academic ability.

Career Opportunities

As a rapidly expanding career choice, work in the credit and financial management field offers much growth potential for today's graduate.  Since the work deals closely with important needs of people, it is satisfying and rewarding, both financially and emotionally. Graduates will find positions in financially oriented organizations such as banks, credit unions, finance companies, financial planners, investment companies, credit bureaus, collection agencies, commercial businesses and brokerages.  Many other non-financial firms in diverse fields ranging from retailing and manufacturing to hospitals and clinics also employ persons having credit and financial management knowledge.
