Statement of Purpose
The purpose of the Early Learning Center is to provide quality, affordable childcare
to children of SFCC student parents and to support their parenting needs in ways
that enhance their opportunities for success in college.
ELC Club meetings are generally the 2nd Wednesday of the month from 11:30 am - 1:00
pm. The room varies. Refreshments and door prizes are provided. Most ELC club members
are also Head Start/Early Head Start parents but it is open to anyone.
The SFCC Early Learning Center is…
- A college-operated laboratory site for the early childhood education program.
- A state-licensed and nationally accredited child care facility, providing care
for children age 6 weeks through preschool.
- A Head Start/Early Head Start site consisting of infant, toddler and preschool
classrooms. Head Start is a federally funded program for families meeting enrollment
guidelines. Full-time SFCC students utilizing the childcare program receive priority
for enrollment. Registration is year-round. Please come to Bldg 16, Room 157 for
current information, and to find out more about the program.
The ELC is staffed by professionals in early childhood education and students in
training. The center also provides a link to many community social services including
the Foster Grandparent Program, mental health services, Tree of Sharing, and SFCC
food bank.
Hours of Operation: Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM
New for 2006: Summer child care will be available for Pell Grant eligible students
with children between 6 weeks and 12 years of age. Hours of operation will be Monday-Thursday,
7:00 AM - 4:30 PM.
