Addressing Student Concerns

It is the belief and practice at Community Colleges of Spokane that the best way for students to solve problems is to first meet with the instructor or staff member involved and attempt to resolve the problem. However, if the concern is not resolved, then the student may request a meeting with the department chair or immediate supervisor of the faculty or staff involved. If the concern is still unresolved, the student may request a meeting with the appropriate division dean. This is an informal process, requiring no paperwork or forms. Students engage in this form of problem solving every day with a great deal of success.

In some instances resolution is not possible using the informal process. In these cases, after all three steps of the informal process have been followed, students may choose to initiate a more formal process of review. Register To Vote

How to Register

To register to vote in the state of Washington, you must be:

• A citizen of the United States
• A legal resident of Washington state
• At least 18 years old by election day

In the state of Washington, you do not have to register by political party or declare political party membership to vote in the state's regular primaries or general elections. If you meet the above criteria you can register by:

You may also request that a voter registration form be mailed to you.

Registration Deadlines

In general, you must register at least 30 days in advance of an election to be eligible to vote in that election. It is especially important to remember this deadline if you are registering by mail by using the downloadable form above. Your application must be postmarked by the 30-day cutoff or it will not become effective until after the election.

If you miss the 30-day deadline, you can still sign up in time for the election, but you must register in person at your county elections department no later than 15 days before the election. Contact your county auditor or elections department for assistance and information.

Student Code of Conduct and General Policies

Community Colleges of Spokane has adopted a student code of conduct. All students should familiarize themselves with the rules, regulations and policies concerning student conduct, student records, traffic, health and safety regulations and rights of appeal. Information regarding these topics has been compiled into the Student Code of Conduct and General Policies Reference Manual, which is available online.

SFCC Smoking Policy

Smoking on SFCC Campus Permitted in Designated Areas Only

SFCC is embracing a student initiative to remove the use of tobacco from the heart of the campus. Smoking shelters and other designated smoking areas have been relocated to the perimeter of the campus. Please join in supporting this campus initiative by utilizing the designated areas.

Beginning January 2, 2013:

• Individuals observed smoking outside of the designated smoking areas (see map below) are subject to a smoking citation.
• Tobacco in its non-smoking form, i.e. "chew", is also restricted on campus. (WAC 132Q-30-231)
• Vapor smoking devices, i.e. "E-Cigarettes" are also included in the initiative. (WAC 132Q-30-231))
• Marijuana, although now deemed "legal" (I-502) in Washington State, is still prohibited on the SFCC campus. The restrictions on marijuana use, in any form, is similar to the restrictions regarding the use of alcohol. Alcohol consumption and use is legal in the state of Washington, but CCS restricts its use and possession on campus facilities. In addition, the new marijuana law is not consistent with Federal law; therefore SFCC must conform to Federal rules or risk losing Federal financial aid funding. WAC 132Q-30-228 and 230)
