The Stop the Hate committee can provide trainings for students, staff, faculty, and administrators on issues
related to hate. We can present these trainings in classrooms, at department meetings, special events, orientations, or any
other type of event. We can customize the trainings to your time
constraints and needs. Below is a listing of just a few of the trainings we can provide.
Understanding Hate
Hate crime? Hate incident? Hate speech? Is your head swimming with all of these phrases? We can help to
explain the difference between these terms, how each one impacts the community, and what actions and
strategies people can take when confronted by hateful acts or words. We also explore what makes some
actions constitutionally protected while others are not protected.
Documenting Hate
Someone has just reported an act of hate to you and you are not sure what to do. Learn how to be supportive
of the person reporting the hate crime or incident and how you can document its occurrence. With the proper
documentation we can be better positioned to build a safe community of learners.
Becoming an Ally
"But what can I do?" We all have the potential to support people who have been victims of hate crimes or
incidents. We provide strategies for how you can make a difference at the individual and
organizational level. You will feel better prepared to support others, not only those who are
victims of a hate crime or incident, but also to support those who may feel marginalized from our community.
