Online courses allow you to work your studies into your
busy home and/or work schedule. Two
common misconceptions about online courses are that they are correspondence
courses and that they are self-paced -- this is not true. The classes have scheduled beginning and
ending dates and assignment deadlines.
Most students spend 12-15 hours per week working on their online course,
but they usually do so at home and during the times that work for them.

Types of Online Courses
Fully online courses do not meet on campus and all work is completed online. A student
will participate in discussions and group work, take quizzes and exams and submit
all work through the use of tools that are available in the online classroom.
Hybrid courses substitute some on-ground classes for the online classroom. A hybrid
course may meet once or twice a week and the rest of the time online.
Web enhanced courses meet on-ground with some additional resources available for
students in the online classroom.
Spokane Falls Community College uses two different Blackboard web sites depending
on the course you are taking:

|
For Spokane Falls Community College Courses, please go to
http://bbccs.spokane.edu. Login username is your SID (no spaces, dashes, etc.)
and your password is your PIN.
|
|
|
For Washington Online courses (designated by a WAOL as the
instructor), please go to http://www.waol.org
for more information and http://waol.blackboard.com
for your actual classroom. Username is waol+your SID (no spaces, dashes, etc.) and
your password is the first five letters of your last name.

Textbooks
Textbooks can be purchased at the
SFCC Campus Bookstore or you can call (800) 565-6907 or 533-3260 with a credit

Registering for Online Courses
You will register for an online course just like you would for an on-ground course.
If you are not currently an SFCC student, you may apply for
admission online. Please be aware that most online courses fill up early so
register as soon as possible.

Financial Aid Verification Forms
Financial Aid checks may be obtained from the Financial Aid office. Prior to receiving
your Financial Aid, you must commence attendance in your class. This may be done
by submitting your biography for each online class you are enrolled in.
