Associate in Applied Science

Professional/technical education programs give students practical training for jobs that require specific skills and knowledge in order to meet employers' needs. Through these training programs, students may earn an Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree or a Certificate in Professional/Technical Programs. The degree program normally requires two years of study; certificates are for programs one year or less.

Requirements

(A.A.S.) degree candidate must complete a minimum of 90 quarter hours of program requirements with a grade-point average of 2.0 or better; however, many programs require more than the minimum. The candidate must have earned at least 30 hours from Community Colleges of Spokane. A minimum of 18 credits must be completed in related instruction. Related instruction areas are defined as communications, computation and human relations/leadership. A minimum of 3 credits must be completed in any area. Applicable safety and hygiene requirements must be completed.

A student possessing proven competencies in the program requirements and/or related instruction area may be granted advanced standing. Advanced standing placements must be approved by the appropriate associate dean. All credits and grade points received from the time the student enters the program are used for GPA calculation.
