Veterans Services

Once you have completed your application for VA benefits, the Veterans Benefits Office will forward your certification of enrollment to the Muskogee VA Regional Office for further processing. This may take 6-8 weeks to process after receipt by the VA. Depending on when your information has been submitted, there could be a delay in receiving your first payment (SO APPLY EARLY!).

The VA pays at the beginning of the following month. Thus, attendance in January would be paid after February 1st.

The VA prorates (based on a 30 day month) a payment if the enrolled month was not a full calendar month. Thus, if the quarter ends on March 21st, the VA will only pay the prorated portion of 21 days.

The VA does NOT pay any entitlement during the breaks between quarters. This is significant between the Summer and Fall quarter and the Fall and Winter quarter, as each break is approximately 3 weeks long. Thus if you were enrolled during both the Summer and Fall quarter and/or the Fall and Winter quarter, you will only receive a prorated amount for the time you were enrolled and NOT for the time during the breaks.

Check Mark  One-time Deferred Payment.
You are eligible for a deferred payment on your tuition for the first quarter that you attend school until you receive your first payment. This is the one and only time you can receive this benefit.

Check Mark  The VA only pays benefits for classes required to graduate. Prior to registration, consult with a counselor. Tell the counselor you are a veteran to receive assistance selecting classes appropriate to your program and to evaluate previous credits earned.

Check Mark  Be careful of short-term classes: your benefits may be adversely affected. The VA only pays for the dates you actually attend class.

Check Mark  Notify VA Office of Changes.
To ensure the receipt and accuracy of your monthly check, you must notify the SFCC VA Office of all changes in your class schedule.

Your monthly allowance will be prorated based on the number of credits for which you enroll each quarter. For example, if you were to enroll for 10 credits you would receive 75% of the monthly benefit for your chapter.

Regular Pay for VA Benifits

  • After your application has been processed by the VA and your money begins to arrive, the VA will pay you after the month is completed. For example, you will receive January's money sometime in February.
  • Direct Deposit (Chapters 30, 1606, and 1607)
    • Direct Deposit Sign-up: 1-877-838-2778.
    • Your bank account should be credited within 7-10 days.
    • Access payment information online at www.gibill.va.gov.
  • Chapter 35 (or those not electing Direct Deposit):
    • Checks mailed to you should arrive within 10 business days.
  • Be aware that the VA may be inconsistent in their check delivery dates. VA workload and holidays can interrupt their processing, causing delay.

Advance Pay for VA Benifits

If you have not attended school for at least 30 days prior to the start of the quarter, you may elect the option of Advance Pay.

The VA will send the check to SFCC, which is co-payable to the student and SFCC, sometime during the 30-day period before the beginning of the quarter. It cannot be released to you until you have registered for your classes.

An Advance Payment pays the student's monthly benefit for the first and second month of the quarter in advance. The amount is what would have been paid had the student elected to receive the regular payments. This means that student will NOT receive another payment until their third payment would have arrived.

The VA will send the check directly to the Veterans Benefits sometime during the 30-day period before the beginning of the quarter. Our office will contact you when it is ready for you to pick up.

  • Chapter 33 is NOT eligible for Advance Pay.
