Veterans Services

Once you have completed your application for VA benefits, the Veterans Benefits Office will forward your certification of enrollment to the Muskogee VA Regional Office for further processing. This may take 6-8 weeks to process after receipt by the VA. Depending on when your information has been submitted, there could be a delay in receiving your first payment (SO APPLY EARLY!).

The VA pays at the beginning of the following month. Thus, attendance in January would be paid after February 1st.

The VA prorates (based on a 30 day month) a payment if the enrolled month was not a full calendar month. Thus, if the quarter ends on March 21st, the VA will only pay the prorated portion of 21 days.

The VA does NOT pay any entitlement during the breaks between quarters. This is significant between the Summer and Fall quarter and the Fall and Winter quarter, as each break is approximately 3 weeks long. Thus if you were enrolled during both the Summer and Fall quarter and/or the Fall and Winter quarter, you will only receive a prorated amount for the time you were enrolled and NOT for the time during the breaks.

Check Mark  One-time Deferred Payment.
You are eligible for a deferred payment on your tuition for the first quarter that you attend school until you receive your first payment. This is the one and only time you can receive this benefit.

Check Mark  The VA only pays benefits for classes required to graduate. Prior to registration, consult with a counselor. Tell the counselor you are a veteran to receive assistance selecting classes appropriate to your program and to evaluate previous credits earned.

Check Mark  Be careful of short-term classes: your benefits may be adversely affected. The VA only pays for the dates you actually attend class.

Check Mark  Notify VA Office of Changes.
To ensure the receipt and accuracy of your monthly check, you must notify the SFCC VA Office of all changes in your class schedule.
