Salamanca, with its narrow cobblestone streets, golden medieval buildings, soaring cathedrals and enchanting plazas, invites the traveler to explore its language, its people, its history and its culture.

The lovely color of its buildings has earned Salamanca one of its nicknames: "la ciudad dorada" (the golden city). Salamanca is also the location of one of the oldest universities in Europe, thus its second nickname: "the Oxford of Spain."

In this summer program, participants spend up to four weeks in this beautiful and historic city, raising Spanish proficiency while gaining personal experience of the Spanish culture. No previous experience with Spanish is necessary. Students are placed with a Spanish host family in private rooms with all meals provided.

On weekdays students take classes during the morning and have afternoons free to study or explore the city. On Saturdays and Sundays students have the opportunity to take optional full-day excursions to historical/cultural sites in nearby cities for about $35 each, or to travel on their own.

Students will be accompanied by Spanish faculty and will earn up to seven credits in Spanish.

Price of the program includes classes and textbooks, lodging with host families in individual rooms, three meals per day, laundry service once a week, weekly cultural activities and medical insurance. Financial aid may be used toward study abroad.
