¡Bienvenidos!

Welcome to the Spanish Web pages. SFCC offers two full years (six quarters) of Spanish: Elementary Spanish (SPAN 121, 122, 123) and Intermediate Spanish (SPAN 221, 222, 223). Students need not begin with Spanish I; students who have previous experience with Spanish can contact Gabriel Valenzuela for more advanced placement. Summer Study Abroad in Spain: SFCC students have the opportunity to spend two, three or four weeks in Salamanca, Spain and earn up to 7 credits in Spanish.

Spanish Club: An active Spanish club meets every Wednesday at 11:30 AM to play games and practice Spanish together, as well as plan events that promote the cultures of Spanish-speaking groups of people.

International Language Center: Students can enhance their language skills by utilizing the software available in the International Language Center (Bldg. 5, Room 105). Programs in Spanish include Atajo, Before You Know It, EduOle, Spanish Workshop and Grammar Tutor by Idiom Software.

SFCC has a long partnership with the Universidad del Valle in Cali, Colombia. UniValle sends us recent graduates in Modern Languages to team-teach in our Spanish program and assist with other international programs around campus. This program is currently on hiatus.

SFCC offers two full years (six quarters) of Spanish: Elementary Spanish (SPAN 121, 122, 123) and Intermediate Spanish (SPAN 221, 222, 223).

  • Students need not begin with Spanish I; students who have previous experience with Spanish can contact Gabriel Valenzuela for more advanced placement.

  • Classes are offered in sequence, so students who want to take the entire first-year sequence need to take Spanish I during fall quarter, Spanish II during winter quarter, and Spanish III during spring quarter.

  • The second-year sequence is only available during the daytime and is offered in sequence: Spanish IV during fall quarter, Spanish V during winter quarter, and Spanish VI during spring quarter.

  • All of our Spanish courses are offered in August through our Study Abroad in Spain.
