What math course should I take?
Q: Have you taken a Math Assessment Test?

If you are planning to take a Math course or a course with a Math prerequisite for your college program,
you may need to take a Math placement test. The purpose of the test is to place you into a course in which
you will have a good chance of being successful.
The Placement Wizard is designed to help you through the placement process. If you honestly respond to the
questions asked, you will have a better chance of ending up in the Math class that is best for you.
Who does NOT need to take a Math placement test?
- My college program does NOT require a MATH course or any other course with a MATH prerequisite.
(MATH courses are those taught by the math department and do not include courses with other prefixes
such as BUS 102 through BUS 112)
- I graduated from high school last spring and have a high school transcript that shows an A or B
in both semesters of high school Precalculus. (You must provide a high school transcript to verify your grades.)
- I have a placement score that is less than 3 years old.

You are NOT required to take a Math placement test.
- If you already have a placement score, take your score to the New Student Entry Center
(NSEC) in the Student
Union Building #17 in
Room 140 to find out what classes are associated with your score.
- If you don’t have a placement score continue on by answering the question below.
Q: If you graduated from high school last spring and you passed both semesters of high school Precalculus, did you get an A in both semesters**?
**You must have a high school transcript verifying your grades.
but I got an A and a B or two Bs.

You will need to take a math placement test. SFCC offers you two choices for the placement test:
- My Math Test (MMT)
- Math Placement Test – General (MPT – G)
Which math placement test should I take?
- I struggle with fractions, decimals, or percentages.
- I feel like my algebra skills are not quite what they should be.
- I am concerned that I might not be ready for a college-level math class.
- It has been a long time since I have been in a math class and I am not sure how much I remember.

You should sign up at the New Student Entry Center (NSEC) Student
Union Building #17 in
Room 140 for the MMT (My Math Test).
The MMT is a 3-part timed test. You will be supplied with a simple calculator to use during the test. Once you sign up to take the test you are given a code that gives you access to study materials you can use before taking the test.
The results of the test are interpreted to give you an appropriate placement in:
MATH 90, MATH 93, MATH 94, or MATH 98
If you would like to see the types of problems that might appear of each part of the MMT simply click on the course numbers below. The numbers indicated what class you would be placed into if you score a 70% or higher on that part of the test.

Room 140 for the MPT-G (Math Placement Test – General).
The MPT-G is a one-hour timed multiple-choice test. It is intended to check your algebra and mathematical proficiency based on
the State of Washington’s College Readiness Standards (CRS). There are two websites on which you can find practice problems to
help you prepare for the MPT-G.
The results of the test are interpreted to give you placement into MATH 90 or into college-level math courses. The college-level
math courses into which your MPT-G score can place you are listed below. Click on the course number to view the course description.
