"The purpose of this club is to promote and present the German language and culture
to the students of Spokane Falls Community College."
The Deutsch Klub has existed since 1988 and has been enthusiastically displaying
German culture and language at various campus activities. You might have attended
or at least heard of our famous Oktoberfest, when we offer original German Bratwurst
and Sauerkraut served on a roll with German Löwensenf (German Löwen Deli Mustard)
accompanied by a glass of root beer and a waffle for dessert. (Root beer is replacing
one more thing Germany is so famous for: das Bier, which we can't offer, as this campus
is alcohol-free, and we wouldn't want to place our students in harm's way).
Besides the delicious meal, a fun karaoke contest with prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd
place winner tempts people to come and join the Oktoberfest in the SUB Lounge ABC every
fall quarter.
Traditionally in Winter Quarter we have sponsored a German Karneval/Mardi Gras with
different activities and games. We decorate the SUB Lounges ABC -- and that alone is so
much fun! The decorative scheme changes every year, so be on the lookout!
In spring quarter the Volkswalk is our main event. When the weather gets nice again
near the end of the quarter, SFCC puts on a Spring Festival. Our contribution is
offering a Volkswalk. After walking (or running) on a marked path around the school,
finishers are entitled to enjoy a free plate of fruit and a sports drink. Winners
established in the Volkswalk also get a free T-Shirt. But how could we also not
sell Bratwurst to those who have fallen in love with the original German Bratwurst?
Keep your eyes open for information posted around the SFCC Campus!

Each quarter the Klub also shows German Films with English subtitles. Past showings:
"Men - Männer" ,"Stalingrad", "Nasty Girl - Das schreckliche Mädchen", "Comedian
Harmonists", "Good Bye, Lenin. For the International Week, the German Klub showed
the movie "Buena Vista Social Club".

So, after sportive, "foody" and movie events we also offer something for the brain.
Every year we invite two speakers on campus to speak about issues related to the
German Culture. One year we invited Prof. Rod Stackelberg, professor of history
at Gonzaga University, who spoke about his book "Hitler's Germany". We hope to be
able to invite a member of the German Embassy to talk about current German issues.
Last but by no means least are the people who make it all possible: all the Klubs'
members, of course, but especially those who have assumed extra responsibilities
by filling the positions of officers.
We welcome everybody to come and join our Klub! We always meet on Fridays at 1:00 PM
in the Senate Chambers, SUB. Just drop in and check us out. If you like it, please come
back! If you have any comments, ideas and suggestions please feel free to contact the
officers or the Advisors!
